STLCC-Florissant Valley students first published the Forum Newspaper on Oct. 3, 1973. The purpose was to provide an open forum for the students, faculty and staff to share opinions, information and ideas. The newspaper was preceded by the North Star student newspaper which debuted in November 1963 as the first student newspaper for the St. Louis Community College system.
The Forum has served as a learning lab for many communications students throughout the years. By incorporating students from other academic programs, the publication has exposed a wide range of students to the media and career possibilities in the communications field.
On October 06, 2008, the Forum celebrated its 35th anniversary: "The Forum not only serves as an information source for and by the students, but also gives those students interested in pursuing a career in journalism valuable experience," said Renee Thomas-Woods, faculty sponsor of The Forum. "We are so proud to acknowledge everyone who has helped to make The Forum the success it is."
